WOMEN’S DAY HEALTH CONFERENCE
A symposium addressing the health issues unique to women is sponsored annually by the Cultural Center. The coordinator for the annual conference is Vivien Wright (grammieinthefridge53@yahoo.com). Please contact Vivien if you would like to attend or present at the next symposium in January or February of 2014.
The First Annual Women’s Day Conference was held on the 24th of January 2013 at Shangri-La in Santa Cruz de Miramar from 12:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Each participant brought a potluck dish for lunch. In addition to the great health presentations and discussions, the attendees enjoyed talking, eating lunch and swimming in the pool.
The main topic at last year’s conference was Breast Cancer Awareness. Literature from the American Breast Cancer Society was distributed to all participants.
The following speakers presented at the Conference:
1. Amaranth Carlson and Evelyn Hankins discussed homeopathic and holistic approaches to breast health;
2. Leslie Poulson demonstrated self breast exams; and
3. An 8-year breast cancer survivor described her experience in fighting breast cancer.
Thanks to Vivien for planning and organizing the event and to Amaranth, Evelyn and the other presenters. Special thanks to Peter Lynch for allowing the use of Shangri-La, his beautiful home in Santa Cruz de Miramar.
