Great news!!! Our new Community Museum Project has been
approved by the Mexican government. We have now secured the
donation of a building and lot, submitted plans and drawings which
have been approved, and started remodeling of the building.
We have also started our fund raising drive to secure funds for
the completion of the project. To kick start the fund raising campaign,
Leon Pope has agreed to match all cash donations to the project from
all individual donors up to a cumulative total of $100,000.00 pesos.

The new Aticama Community Museum is a joint project of the
Matanchen Bay Cultural Center and other local community
organizations.
The idea for a Community Museum in our area originated with our
own Dr. Rose Lee Patron of Santa Cruz de Miramar, Nayarit and is a
continuation of her efforts to establish a community museum to help
conserve the many indigenous artifacts that are found in our area.
Also, special thanks to Noe Sanabia Castellanos, Nayarit State
Coordinator for Community Museums, for all of his hard work to secure
the approval and recognition of the new Community Museum by the
National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH).
The land and the building for the Community Museum were donated
by the Ejido of Aticama and is located across the street from the
Primary School in Aticama.
The first step of the construction work has started with the
demolition of the roofing that will need to be replaced (Click the
buttons to the left to see the pictures showing the ongoing work).
The new museum will include exhibits representing the following
eras of Mexican history: Pre-Hispanic, Spanish Colonial, Mexican
Independence, and Mexican Revolutionary.
The museum location and project is designed to be multi-use.
There will exterior spaces that can be used for art classes for children
and adults as well as for other events that cannot for some reason be
held at the Cultural Center.
