Annual Halloween Kid’s Party
Each year the Cultural Center sponsors a Children’s Halloween Party at Casa Sorrento in Aticama. It has turned into a giant pool party that gives the local children the chance to enjoy the swimming pool while they show off their creative costumes.
The traditional event started more than 15 years ago with a handful of local children from Aticama attending a party for the then locally unknown Halloween celebration. We now have children of the children from the original party attending the annual affair!
The decision to make the event a pool party and the choice of the unusual menu of hotdogs, nachos, soft drinks and lots of candy were made by the original children who attended the first party and it has become a tradition in our area ever since. Many thanks to all the individuals who have contributed over the years to this successful event.
Last year’s event was held on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Casa Sorrento. Thanks to Kate Wacker, Lesley Poulsen, and Rosa Patron for helping with the decorations (and their great costumes as well!); to Chuck Poulsen, Greg Wacker, and Jorge Gonzalez with helping provide the food; and to Ken Hallenbeck, Barb McKay, Gabriele Jahn, Meche Rodriguez, and the other volunteers for dishing out the food! The party was a great success with over 300 kids from Aticama, La Palma, Santa Cruz, and Los Cocos attending the event.
Anyone wishing to volunteer to help with the decorations or food for this year’s party, please contact Jorge Gonzalez (jorge@aticama.com). We can never have too much food or candy for all the participants!
